Depressing News, Good News, and a Message From Jesus

The Depressing News

We are dealing with very discouraging news. Angry mobs carrying “Defund the Police” signs have been roaming our cities by night stealing, burning, and destroying public and private property. Then, there’s the virus. Millions of people are losing their sense of self-worth because they have lost their jobs and, in many cases, their businesses. They don’t know what they are going to do. Americans are experiencing the emotions of anger, fear, and bewilderment in record numbers. The constant drumbeat of depressing news is having a negative effect on the collective psyche of our nation.

The Good News

Americans need some good news. The best news in all of the world is found in our Bibles, and the amazing thing is that the Lord Himself assembled these words for you and me (2 Timothy 3:16). Whereas the news of the world is depressing, the good news of the Bible is motivational, inspirational, and uplifting. When watching the evening news on television, we hear the opinions of fallible men and women. When we read the Bible, however, we get wisdom from the infallible God, and that wisdom, my friend, “is the principal thing (Proverbs 4:7).”

A Message from Jesus

In view of the current crisis, many people are asking questions – “What kind of a future am I facing?” “What changes should I make?” “What should I do?” Thankfully the Lord Jesus Himself tells us what we are to do as we wait for His appearing:

“But hold fast what you have until I come.” – Revelation 2:25

Hold Fast

By Don Manley, PhD, July 2020

“But hold fast what you have until I come.” – Revelation 2:25

While reading the Bible the other day,
Christ appeared, for He had something to say!
Oh! When He spoke, my heart was stirred.
I’d like to tell you what I heard.
Jesus said, as I wiped my tears,
We should “hold fast” till He appears.
With just a few words He said it all.
We should be true to His holy call.
Here’s how to get through the mess we’re in –
Hold fast to Christ, and stay close to Him.
Hold fast to all that Christ has given.
Hold fast for soon we’ll be in heaven.
This evil will end. This darkness will pass.
But till we see Him, He said to
“Hold fast.”
