A Word from the Lord for Today

Oct 10, 2021

Some people are asking, “Is there any word from the Lord for our current situation?”

Answer: Yes, of course there is!

The Lord has given us His Word, the Bible. His Word contains His answers for our problems. His Word is inspired, His Word is instructional, and His Word is complete (See 2nd Timothy 3:16-17).

Let’s consider some of the words from the Lord that were written nearly 2,000 years ago. His words enable us to live godly lives in these turbulent, sometimes troubling, sometimes frightening changing times.

1. The Word from the Lord warns us that “…in the last days perilous times will come.”

These words are found in 2nd Timothy 3:1. The Greek word that is translated as “perilous” is “chalepos” (pronounced: khal-ep-os’). The idea behind this Greek word seems to be the reducing of strength. The meanings of this Greek word are “difficult, violent, fierce, hard to do, hard to take, hard to bear, troublesome, dangerous, harsh, savage.” These thought-provoking words came to us from the Lord nearly 2,000 years ago yet they are as up-to-date as tomorrow’s news.

The Lord warned us of the “perilous times” that will come in the last days of this age so that we could be strong by being prepared. He tells us how to prepare for the tough times in such passages as Ephesians 6:10-18.

2. The Word from the Lord tells us how this present age (“the Church Age”) will end.

“For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout…Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus, we shall always be with the Lord” (1st Thessalonians 4:16-17) . The theological name for this event is “the rapture.” When Jesus comes for His church (all true believers) this present age will be over.

3. The Word from the Lord teaches us that after Jesus comes for His church (the Rapture), a terrible time of trouble will come to the nations of the earth.

Our Lord told us that this coming time of trouble would be the worst period of time in all of history (Matthew 24:21-22). All of those who accept Christ before the Rapture will escape the coming time of unimaginable trouble known as the Tribulation.

4. The Word from the Lord declares that He will meet all of our needs.

“And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19). In our troubled world, many Christians are finding comfort from these words from the Lord.

Conclusion

In our world we are facing a lot of sin, a lot of deception, and a lot of darkness. In spite of these things, we can still rejoice, Christian, for we can still hold the Word of God in our hands. Read it every day. Meet regularly with other Christians who love our Lord. Take your burdens to the Lord every day, for “He cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7). Learn how to share the good news that Jesus will save forever all of those who will trust Him as their Savior, for He has paid the price for all of our sins on the cross (John 3:16-18 and 3:36).
